Nathan just came home from the annual guys/kids family fishing trip. It is a tradition from my family that just celebrated its 30th year. Nathan has gone a few years with my dad and the last couple of years my father-in-law joined them.
So, this time last year Nathan and I were about to put an offer on our house. My dad and father-in-law didn't really think we were ready for a house and chose to tell Nathan about it on the fishing trip. Of course, I was pissed at the whole situation, but that is another story entirely.
This year, my dad and Nathan had another conversation about us being property owners. Nathan tells me the conversation went a little like this:
Dad: "So, is that vacant lot next to you still for sale?"
Nathan: "Yeah, it is. Last I heard it was $10,000 though."
Dad: "Wow, really? That tiny lot? It's not like you could even put a house on it!"
Nathan: "Yeah, I know."
Dad: "Well, if I were you I would offer them $3,000 for it. You could really build some equity into your home if you had that lot."
Nathan: "Yeah, but that would be more yard to take care of!"
In addition, father-in-law also told Nathan later in a completely separate conversation, that he thought we should look into buying the lot.
Isn't it ironic that last year at this same trip Nathan was getting discouraged from buying a house and this year he is encouraged to make a purchase of a little land?
Geez...men. I love them to death but things like this kill me.

It's spelled G-H-E-T-T-O
Brought to you courtesy of Nathan, a recap of our phone conversation today:
N: You know, it is big trash pick up today
Me: Oh, yeah, hence the closet door, rack, and lawn mower on the curb.
N: Well, I think if I get home and they haven't picked up the big items yet, we should take a drive around the neighborhood.
Me: Ah, why?
N: You never know, we may find a couch on the curb.
Me: (Pause) Tell me your kidding.
N: Well, I mean if you want to....you never know....
Me: Oh my God! Have we really gotten that ghetto? Really?
N: What!?! We live by some nice neighborhoods...you never know...
I don't remember what I said here....I tried to block the conversation out of my mind. As much as I could.

Another great half asleep story...
Last night I woke up to some noise on the back porch. I looked over at the clock at it was about midnight, so I figured it was Nathan putting out the trash can for today's pick up. The noise continues and I hear foot steps going all around the porch and what sounds like the yard too.
Ok, no way it is taking him this long and so much effort to put out one trash can with one small bag in it. I can hear more movement. By this time Roxie is up and barking and I am glad. This is obviously not Nathan and hopefully she is scaring whoever or whatever it is into leaving. Nope, I still hear movement. I reach for my phone. Of course, Nathan had left his phone at home, so I couldn't call him and find out if he was close to home.
I am freaked but I still get up slowly and try to see out of the corner of the window. Much to my surprise it's Nathan leaving the back porch and walking to the front of the house. I bolt out of bed and jump out the front door.
"WHAT are you doing!?! Are you trying to kill me?"
He cluelessly replies, "What?"
"What were you doing on the back porch for so long !"
"I was moving the extra bags of topsoil I bought today for the french drain. If Roxie hadn't been sleeping in our bed you wouldn't of even woken up and known." (Roxie sleeps in her crate, but 90% of the time that he is on nights she stays in bed with me until he gets home.)
At this point, I am so crabby I just turn around and walk back into the house. Everything else is kind of a blur due to my sleepy state.

When life throws lemons at you go ahead and be pissed, lemons to the head hurt.
Just when things are going good for me job wise, poor Nathan hits a big bump. The company he works for annouced today that no one on salary would receive a raise this year. He was so upset. I actually wasn't surprised because I wasn't counting on much of raise for him. I mean, last year he got like 1% or some measly number.
But he is understandably upset, and although he has casual been job hunting before, he is now hard core.
I honestly believe the situation is going to come out positive and even though it may take awhile he will get a job with better money and hours, because what he currently has is crap. He is between 5,000 to 10,000 under paid for this area and he works evenings, the complete opposite of me.
If anyone needs to hire an awesome corporate or call center trainer, let me know.
